TV host Bill Maher has been drawn into a shocking new controversy, as a video of him has emerged in which he condones an adult having sex with a 12-year-old boy, because he claims, "a man" can't be raped.

The comments have come to light almost immediately after the demise of Milo Yiannopoulos, something which Maher has credited himself for by saying "Sunlight is the best disinfectant".

Maher made the comments during a 1998 recording of his TV show, Politically Incorrect, in which himself and his guests are discussing the case of the Washington teacher, Mary Kay Letourneau, who at the time was in her 30s and pregnant with the baby of a 14-year-old student whom she had begun a sexual relationship with when the boy was just 12-years-old.

Commenting on the situation, Maher said;

"(Letourneau) is in jail because she is in love. That's how I view it,"

"Basically, they're having a family and they're keeping the mother in jail because she won't conform to what society feels should be the perfect American family."

Following gasps of disgust from the audience, guest on the show, Celeste Greig, says,

"That's absolutely sickening. She raped this kid"

To which Maher responds with;

"Come on! How can a woman rape a man?"

In 2005, Bill Maher had made similar comments relating to Michael Jackon's accusations of child molestation, saying that it was "ok for kids to touch him", much to the anger of the show's host Craig Ferguson, who swiftly ended the interview.

During an interview with Playboy Magazine in 2007, Maher spoke again in defense of the sexual relationship with the child;

"I think it’s a little offbeat, but you know, I believe in the double standard. If a 28-year-old male teacher is s***wing a 13-year-old girl, that’s a crime. But with Debra Lafave s***wing her 14-year-old boy student, the crime is that we didn’t get it on videotape," he said.

"Was he being taken advantage of? I wish I had been taken advantage of like that. What a memory she gave him! I would think he’s a champion among his friends."

Is "sunlight the best disinfectant"? Bill Maher is yet to comment.
